Southern Gothic Wines
Wine packaging for R Wines' series of three varietals inspired by the culture and foods of the American South. Southern Gothic wines include: Poor Thing Grenache, Diddley Bow Riesling, and Southern Belle Shiraz. The packaging design--a collaboration with artist James Jean and designer Mr. Keedy--reflects mythologies, textures and imagery of the South. These stories unfold across three panels for each varietal (one per bottle), each conceived and illustrated by Jean. Keedy's distinctive ornamentation and typography frames the imagery and defines the triptych. The idea being that while each bottle can be enjoyed alone, they are better together, like a gathering of friends over dinner.
